SECTION J REPORTS
Do you have a building that falls within classes 2 – 9 of the Building Code of Australia? Then a Section J Report is what you need!
What is a Section J Report?
If you require evaluation of commercial development in terms of energy efficiency, SeedHaus™ can conduct a Section J Report (or J Assessment) for you. Part of the National Construction Code, Section J governs the energy efficiency of commercial buildings. The aim of the legislation is to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by ensuring that buildings and their services have features that facilitate the efficient use of energy. SeedHaus™ undertakes a Section J Assessment to ensure that properties and the services within them are conducive to energy efficiency.
What class of buildings require a Section J Assessment?
If you require evaluation of commercial development in terms of energy efficiency, SeedHaus™ can conduct a Section J Report for you. Part of the National Construction Code, J Assessments govern the energy efficiency of commercial buildings. The aim of the legislation is to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by ensuring that buildings and their services have features that facilitate the efficient use of energy. SeedHaus™ undertakes a Section J report to ensure that properties and the services within them are conducive to energy efficiency.
How does Section J work?
SeedHaus™ assessors consider the building envelope’s thermal resistance (how it withstands outside temperatures).
The factors taken into account when preparing a Section J Report include:
- the insulation – known as the R-Value – of walls, floors and roofs,
- the glazing allowance for conductance & UV – how the window glazing blocks heat loss; and
- solar heat gain requirements – how much solar radiation passes through windows.
At SeedHaus™ we collaborate and consult with you for the best outcome
At SeedHaus™ our goal is ensuring that the processes we use are straight forward and effective. This is why we use the Deemed To Satisfy (DTS) method to conduct Section J assessments. The DTS method means that we compare the proposed design of the building against all of the relevant parts of the Building Code of Australia’s Section J requirements. This means that SeedHaus™ also assesses elements of the design such as the glazing, external walls, roof, ceiling and lighting using the Building Code of Australia’s calculators.
If we find that elements of your design are not going to meet the standards required by Section J, SeedHaus™ will then detail the challenges and how you can address them. This can include eliminating non-compliance through upgrading or changing elements of the design. Our aim is to ensure that the outcome is not only energy efficient and code compliant, but that it also fits with your budget and project goals.
