ENERGY EFFICIENCY REPORT

Completed by accredited Energy Consultant professionals, our Energy Efficiency Reports are easy to understand and delivered efficiently

What is an Energy Efficiency Report?

The SeedHaus™ Energy Efficiency Report is a comprehensive assessment of the energy efficiency of a home or building. Similar to the familiar Energy Star Rating that’s now standard on your fridge or washing machine, the Energy Efficiency Report assesses how much energy your home uses and assigns it with a star rating. This includes assessing how much energy your home uses to cool down or heat up so that it’s comfortable year-round. Our SeedHaus™ team evaluates the building design of your home, which includes the roof, walls, insulation, windows and the floor, and then formulates a report on its efficiency. These structural elements are all included as they all impact greatly on how your property consumes energy and the amount of energy required to keep it comfortable inside.

Why do we need an Energy Efficiency Report?

In recent years Australian sustainability standards have progressed rapidly, which is a great sign for the environment. Now, the country’s minimum energy efficiency rating is 6 stars and can be determined using an Energy Efficiency Report. This star rating means that the property will be not only be cost effective as it uses less energy for heating and cooling, but also more comfortable to live in. More broadly for the community, sustainable housing that utilises efficient building design can also reduce the load on energy infrastructure. If you are building a new home or adding an extension to your property the National Construction Code mandates that it must be energy efficient. This is a requirement no matter whether your new build is a house, town house, apartment or an extension. SeedHaus™ energy consultants are fully accredited and have a wealth of experience in the area, which means that we can provide targeted and effective Energy Efficiency Reports.

How does the SeedHaus™ Energy Report work?

Our consultants consider the exact specifications of each property and use these to create the Energy Efficiency Report. These reports consider a multitude of factors like construction design and materials in both the residential and commercial sectors, which the SeedHaus™ team is well versed in and use to assess the energy efficiency of the property.

Although the exact process is dictated by the property itself, the process we follow depends on the kind of assessment. Preparing the Energy Efficiency Report can involve:

  • assessing the property using a computer simulation (called BERS) to calculate the air temperature in each room of the house for each hour, for 365 days of a year. this means that we can understand the temperature changes occurring in each room throughout every season and can pinpoint which areas may impact the star rating of your home. The property is then awarded a star rating that is detailed in the Energy Efficiency Report.
  • utilising a process known as a ‘deemed to satisfy’ (DTS) solution, which follows the requirements set down by the National Construction Code to implement materials, components, design factors, and construction methods that, if used, are deemed to meet the performance requirements.

Following the completion of the assessment, SeedHaus™ then delivers a comprehensive Energy Efficiency Report. The report details the property’s star rating, a nationally recognised certificate under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme and a copy of your building plans officially stamped with the energy efficiency star rating.

Who can benefit from an Energy Efficiency Report?

If you are building a new house or extension, then you are legally required to have the energy efficiency of your new build assessed. The SeedHaus™ team is solutions focused and works with clients to ensure that these requirements are met in a way that reflects the project requirements, and that the Energy Efficiency Report is undertaken with care and expertise. Together, we achieve outstanding outcomes through a collective understanding of the importance of effective energy solutions. If you are an existing home owner we can model your house and give you great advice how to improve your rating.
